This travel experience will give you the opportunity to explore two of the most spectacular fjords in Norway: the majestic and possibly Scandinavia’s most iconic destination the Sognefjord, “king of all fjords”, considered the largest and deepest fjord in Norway and Handangerfjord, the third-longest fjord in the world and a region with rich food traditions, cultural history and unique nature. You will begin this remarkable journey in magical Bergen -the gates to the land of the fjords- enjoying this UNESCO heritage city with its perfect mix of culture and stunning landscapes.
Afterwards, you will have the memory of a lifetime discovering some of the most beautiful fjord areas in the world. You will take a cruise (by an electrically fuelled ferry) from Gudvangen to admire the narrow and breathtaking Naeroyfjord (a sidearm of the Sognefjord) surrounded by magnificent steep mountains, numerous waterfalls and three small cosy villages. Further on your eyes will enjoy the captivating beauty of Laerdal and thereafter the amazing Fjaerlandfjord, the place where the fjord meets the glacier. In the village of Fjaerland, you will find impressive and dramatic panoramas while overnighting in a historical hotel just some kilometres away from the largest glacier in Europe, Jostedalsbreen.
You will be able to expand your understanding of glaciers visiting Norway’s Glacial Museum and later be able to quietly enjoy a cup of tea or other refreshments while admiring the stunning panorama or simply reading a book after visiting Norway’s very own “Book” town. Your journey will thereafter take you to Balestrand- the village of artists with its extraordinary light and wonderful nature. You will then pass through the abundantly snowy Vikafjell mountains on the way towards the next beautiful fjord destination, the Hardangerfjord.
Here you will have a unique experience overnighting in the oldest protected wooden hotel in Norway in Utne village where you can enjoy the beauty of this serene village, taste locally produced ciders and later feast on a mouth-watering culinary dinner. You will have the possibility to take a Handangerfjord sightseeing cruise, hike to Oksen, while trekking along Dronningstien, to see one of several mighty waterfalls in Husedalen or visit Hardanger Folk Museum.
