Amber way in Lithuania

0
  • 8 day/7 night tour

Learn all about Baltic amber and its history while following the “Amber way” in Lithuania along the coast of the Baltic Sea, where this gemstone of exceptionally high value called “Lithuanian gold” can be found. Start your journey by visiting the Amber museum-gallery in Vilnius where you will learn more about the origins of the 50 million-year-old Baltic amber, and its differences in form, size and colour while tasting an amber drink. Continue to the unique sandy peninsula of Curonian Spit, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Stop at Amber Bay in Juodkrantė, a humble fishing village where an impressive treasure of amber was discovered in the 19th century with more than 400 jewellery pieces and animal figurines dating to the Neolithic period. This is the largest archaeological find of its type in the world. Climb the magical dunes with their breathtaking views and the feel of being in a desert, admire the colourful old fishermen’s homes in Nida where you will taste freshly smoked fish.

Continue to Palanga to visit the Amber museum, situated in the magnificent palace near the Baltic sea containing one of the most abundant collections of amber in the world with its approximately 30,000 samples. You will become familiar with how amber is formed, its extraction and processing as well as the trade routes that enabled it to spread throughout the world.

If you are interested in strengthening and healing your body and spirit at a spa, try a natural amber sauna, truly unique in the world. At the end of the journey relax by the sea in a countryside cottage including amber therapy and home-cooked meals. You will also have the opportunity to join amber harvesters who explore the coast searching for pieces of amber tossed ashore by the waves. If you are lucky you will discover your own piece!
