Manors and castles of Latvia

0
  • 7 day/6 night tour

Take a trip into the past where your imagination can flow into the ancient Baltic world as it once was. Visit and explore medieval castles where you can expand your understanding of the Baltic crusades as well as the  Christianization of some of the last pagans in Europe. Discover what the Baltic nobility was like by experiencing how it was to be a “Baltic Baron”  through visiting and overnighting in their Manors and Palaces, tasting their food and listening to accounts and stories of their lives.

Your journey begins in the magical city of Riga then continues towards the beautiful National Park Gauja with its amazing nature and two medieval castles: the castle of Turaida, the former residence of the third bishop of Riga in Livonia and the castle of Cesis, the former headquarter of the Livonian Brothers of the Swords, the most iconic and best-preserved in Latvia.

After this encounter with the medieval world, you will time travel to more recent ages visiting the unique baroque masterpiece Palace of Rundale, Jelgava palace – the former residence of Courland dukes, Kuksu manor a prime example of manor architecture in Latvia, then passing to the 19th century with outstanding classical architecture examples  Malpils and Durbe Manor, neo-Gothic gems  Birini and  Jaunmoku  Manor. During your time travel, you will not lack tasty experiences, noble dinners, legends and stories from the past and much more.
